With Black Friday and the holidays coming, figured I'd update this. Currently Playing:Grand Theft Auto V/Grand Theft Auto series - Black Friday purchase for $10. Aside from the sidestory games, I have all the current gen mainline games. Might go through the whole series since the only one I ever beat was Vice City. In The Queue:Tales of Vesperia - Definitive Edition - Still need to get around to this. Ni No Kuni II - Revenant Kingdom - I got the DLC for it, so I am ready once I get off my ass and finish this backlog. Dragon Age Inquisition A classic I wanted to return to. I'll get back there.... eventually. Still Playing:Final Fantasy XIV - Shadowbringers at the end of the month! So excited! Caravan Stories - A charming little former mobile title that arrived across the pond a couple months ago. Hit a progress wall, so just cooling off and running daily tasks. Dynasty Warriors 8: Extreme Legends: Complete Edition - It was on sale before Black Friday and had a hankering for some old-fashioned Three Kingdoms beat'em-up. Gave Up On:Final Fantasy XV - Learning what I have of the novel, the fact that they cancelled the DLC at this point ended up being the last straw for me. Tabata, I liked Crisis Core, but you sir, are a hack. Nioh - Free PS+ deal... but Dark Souls type games are apparently not for me. Should Finish:Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs - Not sure why I never touched this one after the prologue. Maybe because I'm too much of a wuss to play these strategy games without a guide... >.> Dragonball Xenoverse I & IIDragon Quest Heroes - I need to finish this second playthrough so I can say I've played through with both protagonists. Dragon Quest Heroes II - ...and I can't continue this one until I've done the above. For reasons. Yes. >.>... <.<... >.>... Final Fantasy VII (Original)Gonna need some extra hype, so gonna play this around February. Borderlands: The Handsome CollectionElder Scrolls Online - Summerset - I might get back to this soon. The Elsweyr upgrade is on sale, so this might be my other Black Friday purchase. Destiny/Destiny 2 - Went free-to-play, so I decided to get the first one too. Maybe I'll have enough at the end to get the expansions, but currently not a priority. Want to Play:Final Fantasy VII Remake - After everything that's been revealed this year, I have faith. This will be immediate pre-order now. Trials of Mana - Although the SNES version has finally crossed the pond for the SoM Collection, I want to play this remake. Another guaranteed pre-order. Have Finished:Secret of ManaKingdom Hearts IIIGames Completed in 2019: 2 I need to do better... >_<

I will be locking this thread and starting a 2020 one at the end of the month. So if you wanna comment further on it, get it done.
I know my 2019 gaming path ended up quite differently than originally planned.

Currently Playing:
Assassin's Creed: Origins: don't have much to say, because I just started it the other day. Good so far.
Completed:
Dragon Quest XI- done back earlier in the year and already sacrificed to the trade in gods. Great game, but no replay value for me
WWE 2k19: didn't last long with this one, it met the same sacrifice.
Middle Earth: Shadow of War: this was great. Even though it got repetitive at the very end, still a fantastic game. Good end to the franchise.
Assassin's Creed: Unity: okay game, not as bad as AC:3, but not better than the others.
Assassin's Creed: Syndicate: Very good game. Had fun with it. Last in the classic style of the AC franchise's original game play style.
On Hiatus:
Final Fantasy XIV: as always, content has run dry, so I've gotten bored after nearly a year back in FF:14. My current game card runs out in ~20 days, so I'm gonna let it slide and come back when there is more to do again.
Into the dumpster:
Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen: creator up and died last month. This thing could be going down fast and hard, and at the very least it will lose the original vision that attracted so many people to it. No faith in it at all, now.
Battle Chasers: Nightwar: Don't really care about this one anymore.
Dragon Star Varnir: Also don't care about this one anymore. Maybe some day when it's super super cheap.
In the Queue going into 2020:
This list is based on games that are actually in this very room, right now.
Greedfall: Very much looking forward to this. They say it was made in style of Dragon Age: Origins with its feel and purpose.
Assassin's Creed: Odyssey: Oh yeah. Finally getting caught up.
Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky 1: I just recreated a Windows Partition this week, so I have access to my Windows Steam library. I'm going to be playing this on and off when I can't use my PS4 this month.
Legendary Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 1: Finally!

Persona Q2 is done! And in the months since I last posted, there have been a lot of acquisitions.
Ended up buying Because We're Here a few months ago because it was on sale and the indie dev looks like they have some legs, which is good because I don't like jumping into a serial that might not finish.
I also picked up Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments because it's been on my Steam wishlist for a long time, and the Black Friday/Autumn sale slashed it to 85% off, which is the cheapest it's ever been. I love a good detective game and I didn't buy anything from Steam last summer due to my finances being sucked up by med bills, so it's nice to pick something up again.
What was a little less affordable (but is certainly more manageable now that I've gotten out from under my med bills) was picking up Disgaea 5: Complete, AI: The Somnium Files, and Etrian Odyssey Nexus, which are this year's "ack, going out of print!" buys. Though I could buy them digitally, I nabbed all of them for less than list price, so I still don't feel too bad.
Oh, and Tales of Berseria got added to the backlog as part of a Secret Santa exchange.
My progress as it currently stands:
Should Play:
Final Fantasy XV Soul Calibur IV Attack on Titan 2
Doki Doki Literature Club Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City
Should Finish: SMT: Strange Journey
Persona 3 Portable Persona 4 Arena
Divinity: Original Sin
Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard
Not Yet Bought: Valkyria Chronicles 4 Complete Edition - This is digital only, so I'm going to wait for another good sale sometime next year Fire Emblem: Three Houses - Wishlist item until price is $30 or less
Added to Backlog: The Sims 4
The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince
Code:Realize ~Wintertide Miracles~ Etrian Odyssey V The Caligula Effect: Overdose Soul Calibur VI
Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Because We're Here Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments Tales of Berseria Disgaea 5 Complete AI: The Somnium Files Etrian Odyssey Nexus
Finished even though it wasn't on the list:
We Were Here
Bad Apple Wars
Death Road to Canada
Total games completed in 2019: 11

Finished Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments, which I expect will be my last for the year, bringing me up to 12 games completed. Not bad, though it took months of being laid up to do it. Clearly this is not sustainable.
Worse, my end of year purchase binge put me at 13 game purchases for the year, so I have once again failed to cap my purchasing at a game a month. Most of this was due to getting destroyed by end of year sales so perhaps I should account for that in 2020, as I had a similar issue at the end of 2019.
My progress as it currently stands:
Should Play:
Final Fantasy XV Soul Calibur IV Attack on Titan 2
Doki Doki Literature Club Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City
Should Finish: SMT: Strange Journey

My 2019 In ReviewGaming purchases were a bit more restrained this year, as in most of them were pre-planned. The first half of 2019 was front-loaded with pre-orders, which I knew going in, but Aksys dialed back on the otome and there was a lot less catching up purchases on series I'm already in the middle of. This is why I only went a little bit over despite front-loading my year. Playing shorter games (such as Doki Doki Literature Club and The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince) also meant I was able to go through more of them, and I also focused more on finishing in-progress games than starting new ones. This let me pass the 6 game mark before the year was half over. The second half of the year was dominated though by Final Fantasy XV and Persona Q2, which was really only possible because I was on a combination of medical leave and time off for surgery, recovery, and subsequent radiation treatment. I plugged in the ballpark of 100 hours into each of them which would not have been feasible while working full time. This affirms the fact I really only have room for one long JRPG a year. Doing two, let alone completing as many games I did this year, is not possible in a normal year when I'm working full time. However, two shorter JRPGs could still be possible, and I find myself consulting How Long to Beat a lot to decide what I'm going to play. With the purchase of Etrian Odyssey Nexus, I now have all the games in the series I intend to own and with the death of the 3DS (in terms of new releases) I expect that series to be done since there won't be anymore dual screen game mechanics. I also believe that the acquisition of Soul Calibur VI and Disgaea 5 Complete puts me in a similar position with those series as well. Neither should be getting sequels anytime soon, and even if they do, it'll be a while before the DLC train runs out and everything gets packaged into a complete version. However, next year will see the return of the otome train. Collar x Malice Unlimited and Cafe Enchante are both likely to be pre-orders. Piofiore will probably be a buy as well, though I'll set my market alert for a sale since I've heard mixed things about it. For the most part I've trusted Aksys's tastes in which Otomate games they pick up (like they skipped Amnesia, which was my least favorite of those I've played), but I'm not sure about this one. Persona 5 Royal is also going to be rearing its head and I'll nab it for collector's purposes even though I don't plan on playing it anytime soon. All this will bump up my 2020 wishlist by a fair bit, but at least only two of them will be pre-orders.
