Crossing off Cafe Enchante. I really had hoped to be farther along by now. I'm in what I think is the last dungeon of Caligula Effect so maybe I can push that out by the end of the year.

The Sexy Brutale
Return of the Obra Dinn
Murder by Numbers Collar x Malice Unlimited My Vow to My Liege Story of Seasons: Friends of MineralTown (price drop!)

Adding Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle from last year to finished even though it wasn't on the list. It was a backlog title, so it's still progress. Even though it was a compilation, I didn't feel it was appropriate to count all seven games as individual entries seeing as they're so short and they were packaged together.
This brings my game completion count up to 12 this year. Going to do one more post for my year in review.

My 2020 in Review and a Look Forward to 2021
I ended up with a lot of games this year, 14 new games, which is higher than planned, because I know that just hitting 12 is a bit of a commitment. This mostly happening due to some really good sales. It didn't help that the Steam summer sale had an additional discount if you bought a certain dollar amount, so I picked three games from my wishlist to push me over the top when I normally would only have bought one.
Aside from that, sales in general were so good this year so I ended up buying most of the things on my purchase list because they hit the $30 or less threshold, and there were a few impulse buys of titles that I was interested in but didn't expect to become cheap enough for me to gamble on. Christmas also gave me a gift.
My Should Play list only got half done this year, with Tales of Berseria failing to land and The Caligula Effect: Overdose languishing in the home stretch (literally halfway through the final dungeon), but I ended up playing Valkyria Chronicles so I got at least one console JRPG out of the way.
On the other hand, my Should Finish list looks terrible. Aside from my last minute burn through Hatoful Boyfriend, the only one I touched was Etrian Odyssey III, which I did make progress on, but then stopped when I got slaughtered in a boss fight. I probably only need another level or two, along with a little luck, but getting murdered by a boss is always demoralizing in that game and I got thrashed so bad I put it down for a break. Too long a break.
That said, both Norn9 and Valkyria Chronicles are backlog titles, so even though they weren't on either list, I did knock out two games I'd been sitting on for years. The Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle is also a backlog title, but only from last year. Still, it's one more to check off the list.
Next year there are seven new releases I'm interested in, but only one is an automatic pre-order/Day 1 buy for me, and that's Variable Barricade, which I never expected to be localized since it's an over the top romantic comedy. It's not my usual cup of tea, but I really like what I've heard from import reviewers about it ever since it originally came out on Vita.
Aksys announced two more localized otome titles besides that one, but I think I'm starting to get a bit of otome fatigue. I played three Aksys/Otomate titles in 2020 (Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly, Norn9, and Cafe Enchante) and that feels like about all I can handle. Most years I'd actually play less than three, but I've been sick for a lot of this one and visual novels are low key gaming.
I'd also like to start expanding my otome library beyond games under the Otomate brand and the occasional indie, though it's harder since most of the non-Otomate titles on Switch are mobile ports so they're not at the same quality level (and I just don't like playing VNs on PC as much as portables). Bustafellows is coming to Switch in English in 2021 though, and supposedly Steam Prison is as well, so I'll probably pick them up when they come out.
Aside from the otome games, there's Ys IX: Monstrum Nox as the big name franchise series I'm interested in. I'd rather not pay full price, but ever since the license went to NIS America it's been harder to get physical copies on discount, and I prefer to save my console memory for download-only titles, so I'll likely play it by ear.
I'll also probably pick up the SMT III: Nocturne remaster and Persona 5: Strikers, but it'll depend on the price point as neither are particularly urgent buys for me. SMTIII I actually would like to replay and this is a good opportunity to do the true demon route that I didn't back in the PS2 era. P5S I have mixed feelings about because it's probably a good game, but I find I just didn't end up loving P5 as much as the other Personas. If it seems interesting regardless of the P5 connection, I'll probably be fine, but I don't want a regular Musou game with a P5 paint job. (Bonus point that it adds a playable adult cast member though who has a persona. We haven't had adults using personas since Persona 2, and unlike them, Zenkichi is middle aged.)
Lastly, I think I might be back on the Story of Seasons bandwagon. The new Switch installment Pioneers of Olive Town looks interesting, and I might be in need of more low key gaming in the months to come. Previous installments when the series was called Harvest Moon were very nice because gameplay could be divided into fairly predictable half hour chunks, due to the way the in-game clock worked, so it was easy to do "just a little" and it would be "just a little" rather than running longer than expected. I might pre-order for the plushie, which looks simply adorable, but if not I'll wait until it's cheaper since I won't be playing it right away. Aside from wanting to finish Friends of Mineral Town, the new one is coming out the closest to a Japanese release we've ever had (only a month!) so none of the usual guides will be up on release day.
