For those who don't know, Neverwinter is a free-to-play MMO in the Dungeons & Dragons universe and a sequel to the Neverwinter Nights games, taking place in the Forgotten Realms and utilizing the 4th Edition ruleset. Until recently, this game has been exclusive only to PC and XBONE. blog.us.playstation.com/2016/06/29/neverwinter-heading-to-ps4-on-july-19/It will be free to play, with no subscription to PS+ required. All current expansions, including an upcoming future one, will come bundled for free as well. Despite my inevitable disappointment with Onigiri, I remain cautiously optimistic and plan to get this one. Reika: You could also just plunk down twenty bucks if you want to play it a week early. I think they're doing a 'head start' offer with free gear and goodies. >.> Ehh, I could do that... but if I'm going to put down that much, I might as well just purchase a 1 month sub... or character slots. Would this be something our D&D buffs could get behind?

Alright, I've looked into this a bit more, watched a few gameplay videos. Combat reminds me a bit of Dragon Age, so that thankfully lessens the potential learning curve a bit.
Character customization is quite good in that after choosing your face and body presets, they give you the sliders for further customization.
Races you can choose from after taking into account all known expansions:
Human Drow Dwarf Half-Elf Half-Orc Halfling Menzoberranzan Renegade Moon Elf Sun Elf Tiefling Wood Elf Dragonborn
Available classes to choose from after taking into account known expansions:
Trickster Rogue Guardian Fighter Control Wizard Oathbound Paladin Scourge Warlock Devoted Cleric Great Weapon Fighter Hunter Ranger
...damn. No class that uses spears. Gonna have to wait to make Lark then. Hey Roas, what D&D class is known to use spears? D:
Other than that little snafu, I'm now even more hyped. Definitely gonna be purchasing extra character slots if I'm able.

Reika: No, not that Dragonborn. This isn't Skyrim. Bad polar bear. *taps Northlander on the nose* Lark: Was that necessary? >.> Reika: Yes. :3

I looked into it when the announcement was made during E3.
Pass.
Why?
1) The game has been out for a long time already. I'm not getting involved in anything that has been out for this long where so much has already been done content wise. Communities are set, very little room for new people to set up shop, let alone bring in good players, ie. all the best people are already in happy homes. And I refuse to ever join another organization again where I have to watch people who have no business running a group tell people what to do.
2) Next MMO I get into has to be a launch situation with good potential. Be there when it starts. Use my own people to start a group while the pickings and landscape are fresh for reputations.
3) I'm just not interested. I divested myself from Forgotten Realms a long time ago. Don't really feel like getting back in.
There are no MMOs left in 2016 that I am interested in, and even if there was, I have no hardware to play them on. I'm a PC gamer when it comes to MMOs, not console. Now, 2017? Possibilities like Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen (personally watching) and Chronicles of Elyria (others watching). When I have a gaming rig again, and by the time these come out and are vetted as possibilities, I could very well have either taken all the good people from my last group, or helped stage a successful coup to oust decayed remaining old leadership that is still sinking the group as we speak, ie....all the important people are still or have come over to my side since my departure.
I do so like to be right.

Well, since the developers need time to figure out how to integrate the PS4 data into the cross-data servers, there's no cross-play with the other platforms... yet. Technically, it would be starting fresh, but I get what you're saying. Good luck when your time comes, and I'll say hi to Drizzt for ya.

You know...I'm suddenly reconsidering for the sole fact that I'm done with Technomancer any day now, and I've still got 20+ days to fill until No Man's Sky drops.
Might not be such a bad idea to mess around with this since it's both free and I'd not be really committing to anything long term...simply a filler.
I'll read you updates as you play for the next few days and decide once I beat Technomancer.

Yeah, I put down the $20 for Early Access after all. I've just about reached level 15, and I've been enjoying myself so far. There are a HELL of a lot of ways to develop and make your character stronger, such as purchasable companions and mounts, each with their own equipment and/or enchantment slots. And like all good mmos, endgame is a hell of a grind, but since you said it wouldn't be a full commitment, none of that should be an issue. If you do decide you want to try it out, Look up Knox's Irregulars. I can put in a good word for you, even if your stay would only be temporary.
