There has been released quite a few of these since they announced it some time ago, and I've picked out a handful of them myself. Truthfully, I wondered why this hadn't been done a long time ago, but I read a more indepth technical explanation of why only the 3DS would be able to handle it, at least if they were to be emulated at an acceptable rate that people would be willing to pay for. This is highly subjective, of course, but that's just how it is with things like this.
Pilotwings - I bought this, and... I'm actually kind of disappointed with it. I like the concept of parachuting or flying various crafts or gadgets, but I'm not so fond of the whole "do things over and over and over again until you perfect your score or throw your Snes/3DS into the nearest body of water" thing. Especially not when they control as poorly as this.
The Legend of the Mystical Ninja - I'm not very familiar with this franchise at all, so I don't really have anything to say about it.
Final Fight 1, 2 & 3 - Bought all of them. The first game is one of my favorite side scrolling beat 'em ups... but not so much on the Snes. They egregriously cut out the two player coop mode and nixed Guy, which quite frankly puzzles me. The game got a second replace in Japan where they replaced Cody with Guy, which gave the whole thing more of a cash-in feeling than anything. And then an almost arcade-perfect version was released on the Sega CD, which sure had to be a kick in Nintendo's direction, because I can think of no explanation of why the Snes couldn't do this too. Even weirder, Final Fight 2 and 3 kept the two-player coop AND had three and four selectable characters respectively. In all fairness, Final Fight 1 still plays nice, and since you can't play it coop over the 3DS in any way, this weird omission stings less. Final Fight 2 is... not nearly as good as Final Fight 1, but Final Fight 3 seems to be a better game altogether than 2.
Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Super Street Fighter 2 and Street Fighter Alpha 2 - The latter two which I had on my Sega Megadrive and Playstation 1 respectively. It's a good series, but I've kind of fallen out with the 1 on 1 fighters lately. I tend to prefer games I can play WITH people more often lately, though they can still be fun occasionally, even if I prefer racing games as games I play against other people. As such, I don't know how well they do on the 3DS. Presumably just fine, I'm assuming.
Kirby's Dream Course - Never played any of the Kirby games. Looks like a cute series, but I've just not gotten around to it. And this is kinda-sorta a golf-like experience.
Mega Man VII, Mega Man X1, 2 & 3 - Now this is a series that made me quite aware I'm lagging a bit behind, never having owned a NES, where it all started out. I did buy the collection on the PS4, but I can't really say I've played it a lot. Feel it's kind of weird to start on the seventh game.
Super Punch-Out - Honestly, it's a bit tempting, because this is such a lovable oddball of a game. I remember trying it a bit on a Snes emulator, but since I now have the reflexes of a 44 year old man, well.....
Contra III - Played a bit of this on the Xbox 360. It's a cool series, but I found the segments where you run upwards kind of annoying. Probably meant as a departure from the side-scrolling parts, like the paths in the original Contra, but... yeah. It's a good game, but I didn't feel like rebuying this one. (It's also a right bastard of a game, which might also have something to do with it. ^^;; )
Super Mario Kart - Again, quite tempting. I did get a cart racing game on the original DS, though. It didn't leave me wanting for more. I guess I just prefer the more serious racers, like Need for Speed or the Colin McRae rally series. Or Wipeout. Speaking of....
F-Zero - Got one of the games on the Gamecube. I think this is a really good series; I played the N64 version a lot with my friend, and the Gamecube version was even more fun. As such, this one proooobably gets a bit dated, but who knows... I might change my mind later.
Donkey Kong Country 1, 2 & 3 - I get that the graphics are pushing the limits of what the Snes can do, but I've honestly never been a fan of this style; sort of 3D CG transferred into a 2D look. Once again, tried this a bit on emulator. Didn't leave me wanting for more.
Earthbound - I have a friend who bought the new 3DS almost literally for this game. I certainly acknowledge its uniqueness; the main reason why I haven't really played it is because I'm kind of finicky with wanting either fantasy or sci-fi... or both... in my RPGs. (Well, sci-fi is fantasy too, as "fantasy" is a rather broad subject, but... you know what I mean, right?)
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - Tempting, but I've bought a lot of Zelda games, and completed none of them. I don't even know why; I play a while and then I just... stop. yet I play through Alundra? Sometimes, I don't make any sense to myself.
Super Metroid - This is one of those games that made me envious to Super Nintendo owners. It's such a nice game, and even the Gameboy Advance games or the ones released on Gamecube can't really measure up. It's a bit tough on the small screen, but I'll make do somehow... eventually.
Breath of Fire 1 & 2 - I did consider the first game, but I seriously need to be careful about how many RPGs I own -- I gotta have time to play them all too. ^^;; Don't know much of the first one, but the second one was pretty tough in a lot of respects, and as far as I could remember having played it emulated, it also had a really bad translation. Was that the one they used for this release too?
Super Mario World - Again, tempting. Platform games have always been an old favorite of mine, and Super Mario World is a big one. I do remember having it on the Gameboy Advance and getting pretty far in it. Even though I chose the Megadrive back in the day, I completely understand why the Mario series is as beloved as it is.
Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts - Much as I hate to admit it, the Snes really won the Ghouls 'n Ghosts 'n Goblins lottery. This is a fantastic game with a fun and fairly elaborate weapon and armor setup, as well as some amazing stages. It's tough as balls, but that's OK. The only thing really bad about it is that the secret weapon you need on your second playthrough is a pile of ass. It's terrible! As if the game wasn't tough enough without it, they make you start over from the beginning, up the stage difficulty and then try to foist this absolute turd of a weapon on us.
Super Castlevania IV - While I still consider Castlevania: Symphony of the Night the best Castlevania game, this is still a damn nice game. Definitely need to play this more often. (Though I just recently bought it, so...)
AND NOW, a little list of "games I would like to see released here in the future":
Pocky & Rocky 1 & 2 - Two games that sort of works as a continuation of an old arcade favorite of mine that showed up in the Taito collection: Ki Ki Kai Kai. Multidirectional shooter and flag-waver, it's a wonderfully fun and cute game.
Secret of Mana 1 and 2 - Which would, granted, require them to translate SoM2 (aka Seiken Densetsu 3), which will most likely never happen. But while I wasn't a huge fan of the first SoM game -- what was UP with that action bar thing? -- I loved SoM2/Seiken 3. It was an amazingly gorgeous game with a choice between three characters out of a roster of 6. Granted, outside of the opening act, the game mostly played the same regardless of who you chose, but still; I'm going to keep hoping here.
Super Turrican 1 & 2 - They are both kinda-sorta imitations of one of my favorite Commodore platform shooters of all time, the second game being my favorite Amiga game of all time except for a platform slash 'em up called Lionheart. Clearly inspired by Metroid, but certainly not a clone.
So, what do you think of this lineup so far? Which games would you like to see released on the 3DS's Snes lineup?
