It happened. We all know it happened.
Good luck in the next four years, guys. I expect to completely lose my faith in humanity by the end of 2017.

It's gonna be rough. I know a lot of people in less than privileged groups, and while I get a that part of the country has felt disenfranchised, there was a group of people who feared for their livelihood, and group that feared for their lives, and unfortunately the latter is now the one in the cold.
I am disappointed, but also angry. My Twitter feed is a mess of people in pain, many of them friends or friends of friends, and I want to do something about that.

I'm sorry you all feel this way and understand that you see this from a different perspective than I do, but as one who has been adversely affected by many of the ills of the current system for the past few years I see things quite differently.
But I'm not going to debate or really discuss, because this is not the time due to raw emotions...and I've never considered this message board the place, either. I have been where you are feeling such a way, and frankly, it's up to the individual on how they choose to deal with such things going forward.
I simply hope that you may see things differently should things indeed change for the better.
You are all free to keep discussing this, but I will no longer comment.

I'm sorry, but it turns out I have one more thing to say.
As I said, I have felt the disappointment and defeat some of you are feeling before...twice in the past two elections (duh). So I'll just say this. In the end, you may not ever be okay with the results...I know I wasn't because I disagreed with a lot of the decisions the government made.
But the thing is, while you may never be all right with it, things will never be as bad as you think it's going to be. I've been unhappy for many years, been affected by the decisions made by the government, but you know what?
The world didn't end....life went on and I adjusted and made the best of it.
It's up to you to make a choice on how you go forward. I went back to school to specifically learn about this stuff and how our government worked so that I was more prepared to make better and informed decisions.
I'm not telling people to go do that, but I hope you can find a way to channel your emotions and feelings while becoming the most informed you can be.
Now I am done.

I can't believe it. I am sick at the thought of this man being chosen as our country's figurehead, to represent our country to the world. I am also scared at the fallout, especially as a chronically ill woman who has tried to get health insurance before the ACA was passed and how many unnecessary hurdles were thrown in the way.
However, there are many good people in Congress. We may often suck at electing governors (and representatives) but we have sent two excellent people there as Senators. (Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken.) Hillary's speech was very good, very optimistic, and reminded me that there is still work to be done to make the type of country we want. So today, after we had our rantings in the morning before the customers came in, I tried to take care of my customers the best that I could. To stand against what this man represents. Oh, and thinking up new jokes.
God willing, we'll get through the next four years with as little damage as possible.

I want to believe that. I want to believe that so much right now. I mean, hell. I survived Bush. I'll make it through this bastard too.

It's an interesting thing. It's like a disease that affects the populous every few years. I tell anyone who asked that I don't vote, but like many who just don't say it, I don't vote for a reason. That reason is that there are never any good candidates. The people in the system have lost sight of what they are supposed to be doing. Serving the people of the country. Instead the system is bogged down with lobbyists, wheeling and dealing and the general bullshit that they all spew. Nobody's hands are ever clean because in order to get something passed that you think is good, you have to support 5+ things you think are not good. And by the time you get it passed it is loaded down with so many riders and additions, that it's no longer as good as it started out. Thus when election time comes around again so and so voted to raise taxes so many times while so and so supported other bad bill. The whole system is so screwed up that nobody can support anything they believe in, because they don't get anything out of it. Want to get out of that? Change the format. All laws are only allowed to cover one issue. No riders, no addendums, just what it is.
Now, as far as the current situation, chances are it's not going to affect your life very much. The presidential candidates always say they will sign certain legislation into law, but it has to pass through so many people first. The president can't unilaterally do most of the things they claim to wan to do, so it often doesn't matter. Here's the way I saw things before the election was completed. If Hillary was elected, it would be a lot more of the same for the next four years. If Trump had been elected, he would bounce people in key positions, but they would be people that aren't doing their job. Basically he's going to mess things up by getting rid of key components. The success of his presidency will come in his wake. I don't see him lasting more than 1 term, meaning whoever comes in after him is going to look at things and say, "Okay, now we have to fix what he broke." In other words, the government goes by "If it's not broke don't fix it, even if it's broke." Trump will break that shit to the point that the government will need to fix it.
Basicaly, the only people I usually see with an interest in politics are those who have a political agenda themselves. I liked that I could come here and not have to hear about politics. I ask can we please not talk about this too much? It puts me in a bad mood. Too volatile.

Yeah... Yeah, I can see where you're coming from. I just needed to get those bad feelings out of my system. Feel free to delete this topic. No need for that. I see where you're coming from too, as well as the others. I just don't want something as heated as politics to divide this already small group. We'll leave the post.

It happened. We all know it happened. Good luck in the next four years, guys. I expect to completely lose my faith in humanity by the end of 2017. MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY Im not from the US, Im from Argentina and Im not the most informed person ever on north american politics, so take my opinion with a pinch of salt. That being said, Hillary was certainly not the apple of my eye, but Trump being elected president was like a slap in the face for my faith in mankind. I cant believe a misogynist, racist and rampant xenophobe with so little expertise in politics can actually be elected president of one of the most powerful countries of the world (certianly THE most powerful of the western world, thats for sure). I was genuinely sad. On a personal note, Im more or less concerned about how Trump's trade policies will affect global economy, and if his protectionst approach will get him into a trade war with other countries, specially trade powerhouse China. Lets not forget the US dollar IS the world's principal reserve currency, so I dont want to call it but I smell GLOBAL RECESSION. So lets hope this guy doesnt screw things up for the sake of all of us. Im also glad that I got my US travel visa already, I dont think that with his new immigration policies, and his rampant dislike for latin-americans, visa requirements are getting any easier. I know it's mostly Mexican immigration what troubles him but he strikes me as the kind of person that has all of latin america mixed up and thinks it is just one big banana republic stereotype full of poncho-wearing taco-eating brownish people that love pinatas.

Welp...
It's been two and a half years since I posted this. Depending on how the Government Shutdown announcement tomorrow goes, my situation has changed.
Because of the shutdown, the people that deal with the food stamps of me and my mother have been furloughed. Tomorrow, we will be getting February's stamps.... And then nothing. As long as this shutdown continues, we won't be getting any more.
....so Anon. Remember when you said that the presidency wouldn't effect my life? Guess what? You might want to reexamine that stance.
Rune. I think you can officially count me among those friends of yours who fear for their lives.
The only solace I can take from all of this is that I now know who the real monsters in this country are.
All this because he rightfully lost a fucking lawsuit...

I... wish I had some magic words. In the meantime, Internet hugs if you want them, and may we get some good news tomorrow. The stories circulating around the web about how people have been affected by this have been heartbreaking.
