I'm not familiar with the older Castlevania games (pre-SotN) so I don't know why they chose 3 to get started with. Just popularity?

I'm not familiar with the older Castlevania games (pre-SotN) so I don't know why they chose 3 to get started with. Just popularity? I think the initial report of it being 3 is wrong. Other reports on other sites say there is no information on story details. But 3 would be a perfect starting point rather than just starting with Simon Belmont for story telling purposes. 3 is the starting point for the greater expanded plot lines of Castlevania. 3, story wise, was the only time the series introduced sort of a group (among them Alucard), which leads it to be a perfect starting point for a series where a character stable is a good thing. Then it opens the door to Richter Belmont who then leads to the events of Symphony of the Night. That's a whole lot of cannon story plots to work with to create a few seasons worth of episodes.

I like the logo. It's good they're keeping it a recognizable style. Need more info though. Especially if it's really landing this year. They have to have already done casting by now if they're finishing by end of the year, unless they're doing this on some shoestring budget.

It looks better than I expected given the lack of visuals up until this point. Count me intrigued. I probably won't up my Netflix sub again until S3 of Voltron though. I only keep Netflix subbed for a month at a time and just binge during that month.

Color me intrigued. I'll watch the first episode at least.

If the first episode is any indication, the series is a good one. This is how to write a vampire. Seducer, knowledgeable, angry but not without cause, having unimaginable power but willing to not use it until provoked. But when he is provoked all of it comes forth. I never played Castlevania 3, but in one episode they made me think, "he may be overreacting a bit, but right now I'm kinda still on his side." That is good villain writing, and with how vampires have been portrayed lately, it's great Vampire writing.

Okay...that was great.
I'll write more on my thoughts tomorrow after I've digested it all, but I'll just say a couple of things to start.
Trevor is as badass as a Belmont should be.
Alucard is definitely the Alucard character design we see in Symphony of the Night, which makes him so awesome for me.
This show is salty and graphic...and I love it.
Season 1 is just the appetizer. Season 2 is gonna be the meat of what was Castlevania 3.

Late to the party, but finally watched this. I didn't like Trevor until he got his butt in gear. Not really cool with the boozy "I don't care but really I do" types. Happy when he got rid of that rug he was wearing and starting looking like I expect a vampire hunter to look.
I was disappointed he didn't use the Vampire Killer whip more, since whip action is what makes Castlavania so distinctive, but at least it was used most of the Alucard fight. Also disappointed that they just passed the whip off as consecrated since its origin in Castlevania lore is a lot more meaningful and tragic. I get that they didn't want to go into a lore moment about how the first vampire hunter in the family struck down his bitten fiancée to imbue the whip with her willing soul, but they still could have indicated that it was something really special. >.> I mean, it even has a name. Conversely, they could have just not mentioned anything at all, since Belmonts have been slinging whips in many games without the audience even questioning it.
That said, this is probably the best western adaptation of Japanese source material I've seen in a while. The animation is really good, they managed to give personalities to characters originally from an NES game (though I'm sure Alucard's helped along by SotN), and it seems like they built on the existing lore fairly well. It's more violent than I expected, but tonally fitting the later console installments which have been going for M ratings since Lament of Innocence. I'll watch S2 if it's up when I get around to subscribing to Netflix again. (Don't know when that will be, but it's generally following a Voltron release.)
This makes me want to go and pull another Castlevania game out of my backlog (Portrait of Ruin and Harmony of Dissonance have been sitting around for forever).
I'd also like it if they'd later get around to animating Aria and Dawn of Sorrow. The games are newer and chronologically the farthest ahead in the timeline, but they have homages to III since they feature a Belmont, a Belnades, and Alucard as part of the cast, which would make the transition easier for people watching the current series, and there are other supporting characters as well. I'm not sure how widely the Sorrow games were played, but I know the reviews were good and the story (especially the twist!) is fun. As a duology they're probably my favorite of the series.

Okay.
I watched Season 2 the other day. I liked it, but still collecting my thoughts to examine it...especially in the light of a Season 3 otw.
