Maria: And I'm saying you're wrong.
Kalia: How am I wrong? D:
Maria: Did you not see how close her hand was to her thigh?!
Casear: Uhh, squirt? Auntie Solana was being carried cause she almost sprained her ankle. That's not evidence.
Maria: Quiet, you! >_<
Ilayne: I can't believe I'm even listening to this conversation.
Dante: Come on, sis. You know it's funny.
Rune: Alright guys. Aryn's ready to put food on the grill. You want to add anything, now's your chance.
As the young ones headed out to the yard to put in some last-minute orders, Maria suddenly felt a slight tingling sensation. It was as if time suddenly stopped , the hallway seeming to stretch as if caught in a black hole. Spots swam in her vision as the colors around her inverted. What she saw next nearly made her hyperventilate.
She saw the middle of her hand becoming translucent, able to see the others through it like a magnifying glass... at least that how it would have been had everyone not disappeared. Beginning to panic, Maria's head whipped around, trying to find any trace of her friends and family. A shrill wind blasted through her ears as the room began to distort and spin, until there was nothing but darkness. Falling to her knees, Maria tried to scream for help, but no sound came out.
What was happening? Where was everyone?! By now the tears were beginning to fall. She had to get out of here! Someone had to save her! She squeezed her eyes closed, waiting... waiting...
Kalia: Maria!
Opening her eyes, Maria was dumbstruck. Everything was back to normal.
Caesar: What the hell was that?
Ilayne: Seriously, you just collapsed out of nowhere. You sure you've been getting enough to eat?
Kalia: Guys.
Calm down. She had to calm down. She was back. She was safe. That's all that mattered. Just to be sure, she looked at her hand again. Solid. Just as it should be.
Maria: I'm fine...
Dante: You sure you don't want to lie down for a while?
Maria: So, what did Auntie Rune say about food? I'm famished!
The smile didn't quite reach her eyes.
As the kids left the room, not a single person heard the chains rattling.
?: He he he he... That never gets old...
