I don't know about the rest of you, but I am glad that 2017 is over. While there was some very good things this past year, there was more that was not quite so good. Here's hoping that the next year is better, and I wish that for you all as well. While I do have resolutions relating to me I do have one that affects the Shriners. I have gone away for weeks at a time the past year, which is something I always feel guilty about when I do it. I resolve to post at least once per week for this next year. I do believe that if you have nothing to say, you should keep your mouth shut, but I have also at times needed the support of you all and been afraid to ask for it because I had been away so long. I want to get to where this is not an issue. And with this post I start my resolution and my new year.

Don't be afraid to ask for support. (Heh, something I'm still trying to learn myself with the depression and anxiety.) Being away for a while doesn't matter to me in the least- you're still a good friend either way. And yeah, 2017 can go in the trash heap along with 1994 (year I lost two grandparents and my bro broke his leg) and 2008 (we lost our dog and I got diagnosed with fibro.) I'm seriously thinking/planning a trip to Bali at some point, a place I've longed to go since high school. It'll take a lot of work and planning, especially with the hypoglycemia and sleep issues, but it's something I desperately want to do. I try not to let my illnesses stand in the way. Oh, and I got an early New Year's present. Eziban and Aryn were in the kitchen working on making mulled drinks. Eziban had a few pots of cider and wine warming on the stove, while Aryn sorted and measured fresh spices. The kitchen was warm and cozy and smelled wonderful, and many Shriners had stopped by to ask when the drinks would be ready. Alis- Hey, Eziban? Do you still have those spells on to strengthen the windows? Eziban- Dormant, but ready to go in a moment. Why? Alis- You're going to want to wake them up. Eziban- Alis- Now. Eziban didn't argue. He threw his spoon to Aryn to finish up and dashed to the kitchen window. The sigil he had traced in every window, aquarium, and mirror in the Shrine woke up at a touch. He quickly fed his power to it, and it turned a vivid green. The power raced to wash over every glass surface in the Shrine, just before the front door banged open. Solana (clutching a book to her chest and panting)- Early! (Gasp!) Advanced reader's copy! Early! I saw it first and it's MINE! New. Tamora Pierce. Book. I get to read it (gasp!) EARLY! Her squeal of joy ricocheted through the building, though the windows stayed put. Dancing, Solana sped off to her chambers to dive into the new book. Eziban (glancing at their seer)- We owe you one. Alis- Can I have the first glass? Aryn- Done. Yeah, I went to the back yesterday at work to grab a cart of books to shelve and I happened to spot this sitting on a stack of advanced reader's copies. We can check them out. And I have today and tomorrow off. (Though I finished it this morning.) One of her best ever, and lots of nods to the later books with characters. She's still amazing.
