So, a while back I got a copy of Working Designs' Cosmic Fantasy 2, sealed. On the one hand I wanted to play the game. On the other hand I didn't want to crack the seal. I now have an awesome workaround. My sister's fiance is good with computer stuff and the two of them gave me an awesome belated birthday gift.
My own retro arcade cabinet.
2 joysticks with 6 buttons apiece, 2 additional top buttons, and 2 front of the cabinet buttons . . . and all programmable. Know what else is programmable? The games. 8GB on a replaceable micro SD card for roms. Atari games, NES, Genesis, and yes, even TurboDuo. There is a USB port on the front for loading new games or plugging in a USB controller.
I have never been a fan of roms. Being a game seller for most of my life and a game collector for longer, I have always found it cheating to get great games without putting in the work to legally acquire them. I still believe that to a degree. If roms are a way for a person to play the game and never get the original, that's cheating. If the person has the game, I am all for having a backup. And for someone like me, who collects and will continue to collect across all systems, I get to try my wish list making sure I really want to get the game to add to my collection or delete it from the list right there. I may need some recommendations for some of the lesser known in the U.S. systems, regional games with an English translation, or if i can get it to work, anything from you Commodore 64 players.

Uh...congratulations? At one point I thought I was a retro gamer, but then when I tried going back to play some games with dated graphics I found out I was a graphics snob and couldn't take looking at it. I accept I'm a snob, now I dabbled in roms in years past, usually to reply things I had already owned. I think I can count on one hand the roms I played. In fact, only two come to mind. Back on 2003 I rommed SNES FF II/IV because I wanted to use a built in game genie to cheeze my way through it. It was fun to be uber. The real game I rommed was Ogre Battle, and frankly a rom is the best way to play that game thanks to freeze states. Anyone who ever played Ogre Battle on the SNES knows you could not save in the middle of a mission...EVER!!!!! Not to mention the trouble with alignment to class raise, getting the High Knihgts, etc...bottom line is freeze state let you stop when you needed to or "save" before you did something reckless that could ruin a character's stats. Was there supposed to be a pic, cuz I see nothing.

Uh...congratulations? Don't get too excited there, Roas. We don't want you to hurt yourself. At one point I thought I was a retro gamer, but then when I tried going back to play some games with dated graphics I found out I was a graphics snob and couldn't take looking at it. I accept I'm a snob, now I get that. I get that not everyone can appreciate the old stuff, but I will still always believe that graphics don't make the game. And yes, going back to suddenly play an old game will give you a shock that says, "Wow. I used to think this looked good?" which is why you have to do it in smaller increments. Hit PS2 before jumping into NES. Get in a little Gamecube before jumping back to Sega Genesis. Part of the reason I keep playing the old games is so that I can keep playing the old games and not get disappointed, and even then it still sometimes happens. Doesn't mean the game's not still good. I dabbled in roms in years past, usually to reply things I had already owned. I think I can count on one hand the roms I played. In fact, only two come to mind. Back on 2003 I rommed SNES FF II/IV because I wanted to use a built in game genie to cheeze my way through it. It was fun to be uber. Was there supposed to be a pic, cuz I see nothing. No, just the big lead up. I may post a pic later. As a fellow lover of old school goodness, NIIIIIIIIIIIICE!!!! I don't suppose it's kizyr's translation? Either way, WOOOOOOW!!!! That was what ran through my head initially, too. Not sure because I don't know Kizyr's real name. Neat! I remember when Kizyr was working on that. Me too. Of course, that game is not the only one. I can also play games like Street Fighter II or Pac-Man like an arcade, where the only thing missing is the quarters it eats. That is a piece of the real fun. Having my own arcade cabinet at home, but with more games than any arcade cabinet ever held. Plus, it's something I can show off a bit. I've already been able to do that a little.

I see Rebecca Capowski and SirKizyr on their. I think Kizyr's real name pronounced the same, spelled a little differently, but they have him as SirKizyr there, which was the older AOL version of his name.
Rebecca did a lot of the old Lunar and Phantasy Star translations too, though I don't remember if she did Walking School stuff. Wouldn't be surprised. I relied on both of them for translation stuff back in the day.
