So Friday hit us with a bad snowstorm. My boss started sending people home early. I left at 3:00pm. 1 hours later I decide that main high ways may be better than the back main roads I was traveling. I try to get on one, an hour later, no dice. The police block the road because idiots who don't know how to drive in the snow are getting themselves stuck. Do they tell people or reroute traffic? No they wait for people to get there and decide for themselves what to do, causing complete confusion. 1 more hour in another direction through back roads only real locals know, the hill is iced over. Back to the back main road I was traveling on before. 1 more hour and a half and almost to another turnoff for the highway, Police close it too, again without telling anyone or rerouting. I decide to head to my parents place since it is closer. They weren't there as they are in the process of moving out. An hour and a half back and I am finally at their house. I haven't eaten since breakfast, it is 8:00, I have no phone charger and my phone is dying, and the only bed is a foam mattress with a comforter in my parents room. If they didn't still have a TV there with one of my dad's MASH seasons (I needed a good comfort show), I don't know what I would have done. I got home this morning, fortunately before the freezing rain. Fun times .

I can add to this.
Last night, my mom's boss told her it was probably going to be a snow day for her.
Right now, a few mins ago, she showed up in a company car to drive my mom to the client house because the stupid family wants her there today.
My mom was not prepared to go anywhere this morning and now she's hustling while her boss is outside in a car waiting....lame. And I can't do a damn thing to help right now.

Ugh, that sucks for both. The one good thing about MN winters is that people do learn how to drive in the crap. (They forget every summer, but learn again.) And I'll take a blizzard over freezing rain any day.
Last February, while working at the other store, we got hit with a massive blizzard. They don't decide to close for the weather, oh no, it's when they're making less than $200 in an hour. And there are ALWAYS idiots willing to brave the snow for errands. I was finally allowed to leave early, as I lived much farther away than other people.
Okay, parking lot. Whoops, car is stuck in my spot. Let's put it in neutral to push. I'm very, very strong from carrying books and potted trees, but no good. The café manager took pity on me and asked a regular customer to help me push.
Yay, car is free! Let's go up the hill to this stoplight, and up another to make a left.
Nope. Let's try the 'stabbing' or 'tapping' technique. Nope, stuck at the stoplight. Red light, green light. Let's try again. Nope. Three lights later, I make it onto the big road.
Slowly, slowly, but enough to keep going. Ooh, stuck at the bottom of another hill. Finally, I get loose and keep going. Stuck again. Try again.
Finally, time to make it on my street. We live at the top of a hill, great for avoiding flooding, hell when the roads are icy. Sometimes you have to park on the side and walk up, then come claim your car in the morning. Luckily, neighbor with pretty much a four wheeler with a snowblower plows me out a path to the top. Tap, tap, tap, don't slide, tap, tap, past his house, past the cop's house... BOOYA, we're home free!
I get nervous on icy roads ever since I hit black ice and hit the guy in front of me, who hit the guy in front of him years ago. (I tried to turn off into the ditch, but no go.) On bad days now, I leave super early and play my 'Ecco the Dolphin' CD to help keep calm, but I still usually need tea and sometimes to walk off the adrenaline.
