Okay, so Roas beat me to the first comment about it, but I am still making the thread.
Finally, after all this time. We actually get a Ghostbusters III. We get the sequel we have been asking for for years. I am a bit of a Ghostbusters super fan. I have both movies. I have the cartoon show in the steel books, with the Firehouse box. I have a complete run of the Real Ghostbusters comics by NOW Comics (The good ones). The old Firehouse and a bunch of the other toys from the 80's and 90's. I have a copy of the Extreme Ghostbusters complete series, which was actually really good. And of course the XB360 video game, which I feared would be the last truly great Ghostbusters IP we would ever get after Harold Ramis' death. This trailer, not only gives me hope for a good movie, but hope for revitalizing the shows. We need a new surge of actually good cartoons, and I would love for a new Ghostbusters cartoon to lead the way.

I am actually optimistic for this to be good, because of the fact they are respecting the history of the franchise.
General reception so far from normal people has been that they like the trailer, but were not overwhelmed, but they are feeling okay with it because of what I've already said. They all love, however, is Paul Rudd's line of "There haven't been ghosts seen for 30 years" basically wiping away the stain that was 2016.
Twitter turds losing their shit right now is actually funny, too.

Right, so fanboying aside, there were some things that I am not hugely thrilled about. Finn Wolfhard I am not a huge fan of. In the first season of Stranger Things, he was okay, but as the show went on, he really just turned into the whiny, horny, tween that I used to have to kick out of our theater, when I worked for V-Stock, for getting too frisky. Still, I'll wait to reserve judgement. Mckenna Grace I have seen in a few things and consider a good child actress, but she has usually been playing someone that was smiling an awful lot. I didn't get that from this character so we'll see. Paul Rudd, I straight up like. There is no better every man in his age bracket. And I believe him as a teacher/geologist. These, of course are all minor worries.
My biggest worry is that the main characters are kids. The original Ghostbusters were old enough to had advanced degrees and be doing research. The Extreme Ghostbusters were college students. The only time kids were main characters were in Slimer and the Real Ghostbuster, when they used the Junior Ghostbusters. This marked the end of the series' popularity. Fans did not like the kids. The kids watching looked up to them and wanted to be them when they grew up. We didn't want to see kids already there. Now, one was a kids cartoon and the other was an adult movie, but you can still hit the same alienation. However, I believe in Jason Reitman, and don't believe he'll screw it up.
The line did wipe the 2016 movie from cannon, but it also kind of did that itself. In 30 years, yeah, maybe kids wouldn't know about ghosts, but adults? Living in New York? Working in the same field of study? No. Even IDW, who own the comic rights, separate 2016, Real Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters International, Extreme Ghostbusters, and the Original Movies into separate realities.
I guess like you, Roas, I am more hopefully optimistic about this. But I am really hopeful. And yes, even I was not blown away by the trailer, but what we saw of the special effects were in the same toned down, almost gritty, feel of the first two movies (completely the opposite of the 2016 movie), which has me stoked. Keep in mind it's also the very first look, and it's already got us fans salivating for more. I call that a good sign.

I have never watched Stranger Things, so I have no opinion on that kid or the other one, who I've never seen or even heard of. But I also share the worry of the kids being the center of the movie before they've earned the right. My guess is that their actions we see in this first trailer get the attention of the boys, and they are forced to come and help. I wouldn't be surprised if Oscar is reintroduced as new leader figure, too, to shepherd the next generation of Busters.
With any luck we get a well done passing of the torch movie and a start of a new chapter in the franchise.
