Somewhere, on an unknown world, in an unknown sky, a flying vessel of crimson hue dotted the clouds. Men dressed in crimson armor patrolled both the inside and outside, leading to the natural assumption that this was a military vessel. Intimidating in all respects, especially if seen from the ground. However, none of these soldiers noticed the black dot that was keeping pace underneath the ship.
If seen from the ground, it looked sort of like a lost kite, swept up by the ship's currents. Nobody would've imagined that it could be an infiltration aid. Latching onto the ship, the kite folded in on itself and into a holder on someone's back. Dressed all in black, with a mask covering everything but his eyes, the infiltrator climbed the service ladder to a hatch under the ship. Placing a small device on the hatch, the man turned his head away as a beeping noise became more rapid. One small explosion later and the infiltrator crawled within the lower ducts of the ship, careful not to make any noise.
The man made his way through the ductowork until he could see through the vents what looked like the engine rooms. Loosening the grate quietly, he dropped down into the room. Locating the obvious power source of floating green crystals, he set to work, reaching into his holder and taking out a larger explosive device. After attaching it to the power source and setting a timer, he did the same for the other two before returning to the vents, the guards never the wiser.
Traveling further in, the infiltrator finally found his apparent prize. Sealed within a glass case was a nearly six-foot nodachi and sheath which almost seemed to glow with the lack of light in the storage chamber. Dropping from the vent the man touched the glass for a few moments. The blade suddenly seemed to glow just a bit stronger.
"There you are. You're coming back home with me."
With that quiet declaration, the infiltrator punched through the glass, not having sensed any soldiers nearby. The moment he removed the sword from what remained of the case proved him wrong, as a distorted noise from behind alerted him to a larger than normal soldier. Not only was it decked in crimson armor, but it seemed to have wires and tubes running up and down the armor, with other bits of metal and what looked to be cybernetics attached giving it an unsettling appearance. Distorted wiirs and beeping seemed to be its only methos of communication.
"One of you, huh? Poor bastard..." The infiltrator shook his head in apparent pity and made a quickdraw stance with his newly acquired blade. "I'll make it quick."
Sad pity was quickly answered with an angry roar as the misshapen guard ejected a long spike from its gauntlet and charged. The man didn't have to wait long to make his move, and with a single stroke, his opponent slumped forewards mid-charge and lay still. Swiping the blood off the sword, he sheathed the weapon, ready to leave... only to notice the obvious sounds of the ship's alarm being tripped. Looking around and wondering how he managed to alert the guards, the infiltrator discovered lights blinking from the armor of the now dead guard.
"Dammit. Should've know they'd use a dead man's switch..."
He dove back up into the vents just in time to avoid machine gun fire aimed at his previous position.
"He's got the cargo!"
"Don't let him get away!!"
Now came the tricky part. The ship was small enough that he couldn't hide in the vents for long, and certainly not in one location. Reaching into his holder, he pulled out his last mini-explosive, hoping his next plan would work. Crawling further into the vents, he had to stop himself when he heard the sounds of footsteps above him. Holding his breath, he tossed the exlosive as far away from him down the vent as he could and braced himself. The explosion was small, yet nothing to sneeze at.
"It came from over there!"
"Now we've got him!"
"Don't let him escape!"
It worked. As the soldiers rushed over to the explosion site, the infiltrator pulled himself out of the vents and used the smoke from the explosive as cover. Unfortunately, that had been his last explosive, and now open in the halls, he was a sitting duck. He had to find an exit hatch quickly. To his luck, it didn't take him long to find one, but he still had to be quick if he was gonna escape the guards. Touching the keypad, he let power flow through his fingertips. Lightning magic was one of his weakest elemental talents, but it was enough to short out locks and other small electronics.
Just as he was rewarded with the sight of the hatch opening and the sky below, a bullet sparked a little too close to his head.
"Down on the ground!"
"Hands where we can see them!!"
Cursing to himself, the infiltrator turned to see an entire squad or two of soldiers all pointing their guns at him. Slowly, he began raising his hands... and noticed the holo-timer under his wrist had almost counted down to zero. Grinning to himself, he instead made a shrugging motion, as if taunting the soldiers.
"Cocky bastard!"
That was when the 'BOOM' happened.
The bombs he had placed in the engine room detonated at that moment, causing the ship to lurch and the soldiers to lose their balance. Wasting no time, he fell backwards into the cloudy abyss. After freefalling for a short while, he reactivated the glider in his pack, floating away from the now exploding ship.
It was damn good when a plan came together.
He made sure to get a healthy distance away from the crash site before finding a safe place to land. Removing his pack, he surveyed his handiwork, now a burning heap on the side of a mountain. He was silently thankful that there we no settlements nearby. Removing his mask, he let out a breath he hadn't realized he had been holding. Dark brown hair somewhat spiked near the back waving in the breeze, he couldn't have been older than 20 or 21. As he set his blue eyes on the crash, he began musing to himself, gripping his new sword.
"That's one down..."
