Where do I begin? Around the end of January, my mom suffered a major bout of pneumonia and I had to call in the paramedics. She ended up having a heart attack at the hospital, but she made it through. Unfortunately, near the end of February, she had a stroke and had to be hospitalized again. She couldn't move her right side at all, and she can't eat solid food without it getting caught in her throat. It got so bad that we had to send her to a rehab center for three weeks. So now she's back, she can move somewhat freely again but needs a walker and wheelchair since she can't stay up. We're working on what foods she can eat… to middling success. Unfortunately, I think it's going to get worse again, and I may just have to send her into a nursing home.

Oh no... I'm sorry you and your mom are going through all that. If it does get worse, would it be possible to have an at-home nurse or aide visit instead of putting her in a nursing home? I don't know if it would be more cost effective, but it might be if she won't need 24/7 assistance. If she just needs someone to help her a few times a week for a few hours, at-home care could be an option, and then she could stay in the comfort of her own home.

(Hug) I hope she does continue to improve. Having to guess which foods will or won't work for you can suck.
Rune is absolutely right. My mom was a home care nurse the past few decades and has taken care of many patients who have had strokes. There are different levels of service, and home health aides could help with things like housekeeping and giving showers. If it comes to that point and you have questions, sing out.
(More hugs)
