Ours starts next month, and is arguably one of the best in the country. I love breaking out my bellydance gear for the day, I love watching fire dances, comedy shows, and seeing people (and animals) dressed up in all kinds of costumes. (I've seen samurais, Star Wars characters, biblical characters, whatever.) I love the food, being called 'my lady', and doing early Christmas shopping. If I had to pick a day at the RenFaire or a day at my beloved Atlantis, I don't know if I could do it.
It's such a lovely feeling to be in a place where everyone else is geeking out to the max, which is one of the reasons I love conventions, too.

Ah, the first day of RenFaire was glorious. Getting up at 'Oh, God, why?' o'clock in the morning for work (3:40-4:00) meant getting there at opening time with really no wait time came in handy. The weather got into the nineties, so instead of my darker dance gear I dressed as 'an ocean sprite' visiting humans. So hard to find suitable pieces in my wardrobe for that. I caught Fandazzi Fire Circus' first show of the season, got my yearly pin, and a CD from the band. Everyone was super excited, performers and audience both, and they did not disappoint! I found the map store and picked up another LoZ scroll and a medallion for my youngest brother's Christmas present. Added a lovely black moonstone to my crystal collection and Siberian Fir to my essential oils collection. I met the mermaids and caught a few great performances by a local bellydance group. (Floorwork is hard enough, but to do it with a sword balanced on your head would be much harder!) And this was only the first day. I usually go multiple times a season.
